Are You A Student Athlete?

Many athletes dream of a full scholarship to a prestigious US college, and even one day playing their sport professionally. Knowing the low percentage that makes it to the pros, McLeod Consulting Services considers our athletes as students primarily…who still enjoy varsity athletics.

Athletes require extra strategizing, and often additional administrative assistance from a parent sending emails to coaches. Like regular applicants, they want a school they’ll be proud of, offering their preferred program as well as the flexibility to change focus. Affordability is a concern. Accessibility in terms of airfare and travel time is a consideration.  Athletes also ask:

  • Will the coach have me participating as much as I want?
  • Is s/he someone I can work with who appreciates my academic aspirations and allows time for studying?
  • What if I get an injury?
  • What’s the athletes’ rate of graduation, and can I access extra help if I need it?
  • Can I satisfy NCAA (or other governing body) Initial Eligibility requirements needed to participate?

The NCAA alone has 3 divisions with different rules and varying scholarship availability for each. There’s also the NAIA for some sports, and the NJCAA for 2-year colleges. Clearly, athletes must spend time researching, and advice from someone who knows the colleges and universities can be very helpful in developing the most effective approach and obtaining the best outcome.

Our athletes have consistently been very successful in all respects, and we can help you too, every step of the way.
